Technical Architect

Company Description Sutherland is seeking an experienced Technical Architect to lead the technical vision and architecture for a healthcare real-time telehealth communication platform. This role requires a seasoned full-stack professional with deep expertise in WebRTC-based video/audio streaming, cloud-native architectures on GCP, and modern web technologies. This platform leverages multiple communication providers (AWS Chime, Twilio), micro-frontend architecture, and cloud-native services to deliver a scalable, HIPAA-compliant telehealth solution. U.S healthcare knowledge would be an added advantage. Job Description Architecture & Design - Define and evolve the overall system architecture for the platform - Design scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant distributed systems - Lead architectural decisions for real-time communication, data persistence, and service orchestration - Create and maintain architecture documentation, ADRs (Architecture Decision Records), and technical roadmaps - Evaluate and recommend technology choices for new features and platform improvements Technical Leadership - Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams - Conduct architecture reviews and code reviews for critical components - Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and design patterns - Collaborate with Product, DevOps, and Security teams to align technical solutions with business goals Hands-On Development - Prototype and implement complex technical solutions when needed - Troubleshoot and resolve critical production issues - Optimize system performance, latency, and resource utilization Required Technical Skills Real-Time Communication (Critical) - WebRTC: Deep understanding of WebRTC protocols, SRTP, ICE/STUN/TURN, SDP negotiation - Video/Audio Streaming: Experience with media servers, codec optimization (VP8/VP9, H.264, Opus) - Communication Platforms: Hands-on experience with AWS Chime SDK and/or Twilio Video - Socket.io / WebSockets: Real-time bidirectional communication patterns Frontend Technologies - React 18+: Advanced knowledge including hooks, context, performance optimization - TypeScript: Strong typing, generics, advanced patterns - State Management: Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query (TanStack Query) - Micro-Frontend Architecture: Module Federation (Webpack 5), independent deployment strategies - UI Frameworks: Material-UI (MUI), Emotion/Styled Components - Build Tools: Webpack, Babel, modern bundling strategies Backend Technologies - Node.js / Express: RESTful API design, middleware patterns, async programming - API Design: OpenAPI/Swagger documentation, versioning strategies - Authentication/Authorization: JWT, OAuth 2.0, custom authorization patterns - Message Queues: AWS SQS, Google Cloud Pub/Sub - ORM: Sequelize with PostgreSQL Cloud Platform - Google Cloud Platform (GCP) - Compute: Cloud Run, GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine), Cloud Functions - Storage: Cloud Storage, persistent disks - Networking: VPC, Load Balancers, Cloud CDN, Cloud Armor - Security: IAM, Secret Manager, Cloud KMS - Monitoring: Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace, Cloud Monitoring - CI/CD: Cloud Build, integration with GitLab CI/CD Databases - PostgreSQL: Advanced query optimization, indexing strategies, connection pooling, migrations (Sequelize CLI) - Firebase/Firestore: Real-time database design, security rules, offline persistence - Redis: Caching strategies, session management (ioredis) Observability & Monitoring - OpenTelemetry: Distributed tracing, metrics, logging instrumentation - APM: Application performance monitoring and optimization - Logging: Structured logging with Winston, centralized log aggregation DevOps & Infrastructure - Containerization: Docker, container orchestration - Kubernetes: Deployment strategies, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Helm charts - CI/CD: GitLab CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment automation - Infrastructure as Code: Terraform or similar tools (preferred) Nice-to-Have Skills: - Healthcare Domain: HIPAA compliance, HL7/FHIR standards - AWS Services: Experience with AWS alongside GCP (multi-cloud) - GraphQL: Hasura, Apollo (project uses Hasura GraphQL) - Mobile Development: React Native or native mobile experience - AI/ML Integration: Experience integrating AI services into applications - Performance Testing: Load testing, stress testing for real-time systems Qualifications Experience Requirements - 10+ years of software development experience - 5+ years in architecture or senior technical leadership roles - 3+ years hands-on experience with WebRTC or real-time communication systems - 3+ years experience with GCP or equivalent cloud platform - Proven track record of designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems - Experience with healthcare or regulated industry applications (preferred) Education - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field - Relevant certifications are a plus: - Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect - AWS Solutions Architect - Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD) Soft Skills - Excellent communication skills - ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences - Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking - Collaborative mindset with experience working in Agile/Scrum environments - Ability to balance technical excellence with business pragmatism - Mentorship and team development orientation Additional Information All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
